Adult Basic Education Instruction and English as a Second Language Training are held 4 times a week in conjunction with our Even Start Centers. Instructors from Madison Area Technical College - Portage Campus, Julie Steiner and Mary Christophersen, are available to learners during those times.
Areas of instruction offered include preparation for GED / HSED testing, ESL training, computer training, developing typing skills, continuing education, job search / employment skills, and basic literacy instruction. Participants are assessed to determine educational areas of study and level of materials needed. Both group and individual instruction are utilized in the centers. Participants work at their own pace with guidance and encouragement from the instructors. Individual Tutors are recruited as needed for learners as well.
Periodically we will hold a 30 minute Parent Talk Time to discuss parenting issues/concerns or other child development topics. The group is facilitated by Even Start staff or a guest speaker from the community. Participants are encouraged to share topics they would like to discuss during this time.
