PORTAGE IN BAHRAIN

The N. B. B. Home for Handicapped Children in Isa Town Bahrain hosted a Portage Workshop led by Mollie White under the auspices of the Bahrain Ministry of Rehabilitation and Social Affairs earlier this year. The N. B. B. Home staff together with local professionals in the field attended the workshop. Evening sessions running alongside the workshop gave local parents an opportunity to experience the model at first hand.

The workshops were very well received by both groups. Plans to use the model to introduce individualised programme planning into the daily routines and activities carried out with children living at the Home or attending on a daily basis were established. A pilot home visiting scheme was also proposed building on the enthusiasm and expertise of staff and parents attending the workshops. We look forward to reporting on progress here in the next issue of this newsletter.
